Non-essential shops in England re-opened today (June 15), and the First Minister will make the next announcement this Friday on lockdown measures employed to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic. Welsh Conservatives have said that that these must be eased, and ahead of the announcement, Darren Millar MS – the Shadow Minister for Covid Recovery – said:
“It is time to reopen the Welsh economy.
“The coronavirus pandemic is both a public health and an economic crisis so it is vital that the Welsh Government responds in way that saves both lives and livelihoods.
“As is the case in England, retailers and other businesses across Wales already have their plans in place to open safely while protecting their customers and staff, but the Welsh Government’s dithering is holding them back and putting them at risk.
“The longer the lockdown continues the more difficult it will be to protect Welsh jobs and save businesses here from going bust; the Welsh Government must act now.”
