Commenting on media reports of that GE may make redundancies at its Nantgarw plant in South Wales, Russell George MS – the Shadow Minister for Business, Economy, and Infrastructure – said:
“If these reports are accurate, then it is clearly going to be very worrying news for the employees at the GE Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in South Wales, during what are already very uncertain times, and it follows similar recent announcements by aviation firms with operations in Wales.
“The aviation industry – both airlines and those involved in the manufacture or maintenance of aircraft or engines – has seen a massive drop in demand, and this latest announcement goes to show how hard the global impact of the coronavirus pandemic is being felt across all industries, even key, strategic ones such as the GE MRO in Wales.
“I echo what my colleague Paul Davies MS – the Leader of the Opposition in the Welsh Parliament – pledged last week that he and the Welsh Conservatives will do all we can to deal with the impact of this and a number of recent major job losses in Wales, including working cross-party with the Welsh Labour-led Government.”
