The Shadow Minister for Education, Suzy Davies MS, has called for the swift implementation of a consistent Welsh Government ruling to social distancing on school buses.
She said: “The last few months have caused enough anxiety to pupils and parents as it is, and the last thing they now need is to be laden down further.
“Following media reports of concerned parents who--rightly so—are raising alarm at pupils from different classes mixing on school buses then unable to do so in the classroom, it is essential that a common sense and consistent Welsh Government ruling is brought in. It makes little sense that pupils from different classes – meaning they are in different bubbles – can mix on a bus but are unable to so in school.
“The issue at hand here is that it appears Welsh Government has run out of steam, and rather than make a ruling on social distancing on school buses it has palmed it off to local authorities. And, as a result, Wales is lacking a consistent approach, with pupils and parents experiencing more anxiety.
“Given we are currently in a public health crisis, it is now vital that a ruling is made to prevent further anxiety among our children, parents, school leaders and transport providers.”
