During the First Minister’s statement today (June 3), Paul Davies MS – the Leader of the Opposition in the Welsh Parliament – renewed the call for more clarity over the confusing and unfair five-mile rule, as well as preparations for a future lockdown.
Mr Davies specifically asked what allocations of funding is being set aside for the future and what lessons have been learnt so far during the pandemic.
Speaking later, Mr Davies said:
“The First Minister was again evasive over the five-mile rule, possibly because he is as confused over it as most of us are. It’s a rule, then a rule of thumb, then a guideline. It is confusing and no-one seems to have any more clarity now than on Friday.
“I was no more reassured over the First Minister’s response to future funding, nor what lessons have been learnt to prepare and respond to future outbreaks.
“We Welsh Conservatives look forward to both our debate calling for an independent inquiry into the Welsh Government’s Coronavirus response later this afternoon, and the opportunity to scrutinise and debate the Supplementary Budget later this month.”
The Welsh Conservative Debate begins around 4.30pm today.
