People who did not access mental health support during lockdown could now be overwhelmed by "layered" issues, a consultant psychiatrist has warned.
Dr Bob Colgate, of Bridgend's Princess of Wales Hospital, said demand "changed abruptly" with fewer seeking help while also facing isolation and stress.
Commenting on the BBC Wales story – Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services, Andrew RT Davies MS – said:
“With one in three people likely to experience a mental health issue during their lives, it's vital the Welsh Labour-led Government stops treating this like a Cinderella service.
“The Coronavirus crisis has had a huge impact on people's wellbeing and we're only likely to see the demand increase for such services across Wales.
“The Labour Party’s lack of leadership in tackling this issue is very concerning and it's clear a post-Covid mental health plan is now urgently required so that services and access to support can be guaranteed wherever you live in Wales.”
