Commenting on the announcement of the Bus Emergency Scheme, the Shadow Transport Minister, Russell George MS, said:
“Buses are the most frequently used method of public transport in Wales and for that reason they have a key role in connecting communities.
“Given the pandemic has hard-hit passenger numbers as well as the Welsh Government’s disappointing lack of support for the bus industry, we Welsh Conservatives have called for urgent action and had issued a motion to be debated, which would call for increased available support as well as the setting up of new routes from Cardiff Airport to safe destinations.
“The bus industry has been rightfully critical of the Welsh Government, and the government has clearly heeded our calls and now plans to introduce a Bus Emergency Scheme. This is a step in the right direction, but disappointingly no immediate or long term funding is attached to the plan - more assistance is needed to help Wales’ vitally important buses.”
