Reacting to the changes made to the appeals process in Wales, the Shadow Minister for Education, Suzy Davies MS, said:
“I am pleased to hear that Welsh Government has announced an appeals process to guarantee pupils receive grades which are consistent and just. I am also pleased that our calls for pupils’ actual achievements, supported by teachers, to be given more weight in the appeals process have been heard.
“What we need now is urgent reassurance on time scales and a guarantee of two things: Firstly, all appeals affecting university or other higher education course places will be heard in time and that higher education institutions will keep open places until appeals are heard. Secondly: that this system will not collapse under the pressure of demand.
“If that guarantee can’t be given then today’s announcement may still not allay concerns. I look forward to those guarantees being given swiftly and with confidence or this will not be going away.
“I urge all our pupils who have evidence to dispute their awarded grade to get ready and watch out for further details.”
