In the latest in a series of blog articles for Gwydir, Janet Finch-Saunders MS – the Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Energy and Rural Affairs – looks at the virtue signallers within the Labour administration in Wales, and their lack of action.
Referring to her comments earlier this month about Extinction Rebellion, and its deliberate targeting of the media, Janet reiterated that she declined to meet with them saying:
“Their actions in targeting a free press are beyond the bounds of acceptable political protest… and “… are a dangerous example of hatred and intimidation which has no place in politics…”
She moves on in her article to examine the “Climate Emergency” declared by the Welsh Labour-led Government more than a year ago as part of the Any Other Business in a Cabinet Meeting.
Janet pithily describes it as:
“… the ultimate act of virtual signalling confined to the closing discussion while someone is collecting up the teacups and uneaten biscuits”
before questioning just what has the administration here has done since then to begin to make any real change.
In her provocative article, Janet takes the Welsh Labour-led Government to task, saying:
“There is no time for more dither and delay that epitomises not just the climate change department, but the whole of Welsh Government”
and detailing what a Welsh Conservative Government in Wales would do to tackle climate change and explaining the innate compatibility of Conservatism and conservation as part of the devolution revolution, her support for small modular reactors, and the “greening” of Welsh industry.
