Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Energy and Rural Affairs, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, has welcomed the UK Government’s decision to put the Trade and Agriculture Commission on a statutory footing.
The Commission was created in July to bring together retailers, farming unions, consumer, hospitality and environmental bodies from across the UK to ensure that the sector’s voice was heard at the heart of the UK Government with regards to trade opportunities and protecting British consumers.
Commenting, Mrs Finch-Saunders said:
“I welcome the Trade Secretary’s announcement that this commission has been made statutory. A lot of behind-the-scenes work gone into this, and contributed to making this such good news for Welsh farmers, exporters and consumers to make sure that they are at the centre of the trade opportunities, helping to promote and advance our value-led trade agenda.
“The UK Government has made it clear they will not sign up to any trade deal that affects our fantastic producers’ high standards or our sector’s ability to complete around the world.”
