Reacting to the report that children in Wales are receiving less home schooling during lockdown than those in other nations in the UK, the Shadow Minister for Education, Suzy Davies MS, commented:
“I have been pushing the Minister for weeks and weeks to get to terms with monitoring this. After a period of no work being done, her department finally mobilised and asked local authorities and consortia to report on what they were doing to.
“A written report from consortia is due to be made public at the end of this week. It will be interesting to compare their results with those of UCL.
“While there has been nothing but praise for the Hwb resource, it’s not the same as a teacher led-lesson and we should be worried if Wales has fallen behind.
“Let’s hope the ‘catch up’ in the Minister’s ‘Check In, Catch up’ policy on reopening schools isn’t about access to teaching. We’ve had enough of being Catch-up Cymru.”
