Paul Davies MS – the Leader of the Opposition in the Welsh Parliament – has renewed Welsh Conservative pressure on the First Minister for an independent, judge-led inquiry into his government’s handling of the Coronavirus crisis.
Mr Davies made his call as PM Boris Johnson promised an independent inquiry into the UK Government’s management of the pandemic. Last month, Welsh Conservatives’ Members of the Parliament proposed a judge-led, independent inquiry.
There was widespread disappointment that the Welsh people would have only a watered-down inquiry.
Mr Davies said:
“The Coronavirus pandemic is the most significant challenge in a generation, and it is incumbent upon us that we learn lessons for the future; the independent public inquiry as promised by Boris Johnson will enable this for the UK as whole.
“However, it seems that the same spotlight of inquiry will likely not be focused on the Welsh Labour-led Government when it holds its inquiry. This will let down our people here, and may ill prepare Wales for future crises.”
