Commenting on the Welsh Labour-run Government’s publication of its updated flood risk management strategy, the Shadow Minister for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Andrew RT Davies MS, said:
“Whilst in principle I welcome the announcement, I am flabbergasted that it took the Welsh Labour-run Government almost a decade to update the strategy then have it published.
“The Government’s typical engagement of dithering and delay meant the updated strategy was scandalously not in place by the time the severe floods hit Wales earlier this year.
“To meet the challenges of the day, the strategy ought to be flexible as well as deal with outstanding issues. Worryingly, one major issue which seems to lack any significant detail is long-term funding strategy for defence improvements.
“Moving forward, there can be no room for further error, so I urge the Welsh Labour-run Government to stop shying away from scrutiny and allow Members of the Welsh Parliament to debate this important strategy.
“Finally, if it takes Welsh Labour 10 years to write this strategy just think how long it will take for them to actually build any of the flood defences mentioned in it.
“That’s why come next year’s Welsh General Election voters need to kick them out and vote Welsh Conservative to protect their properties from the devastating effects of flooding.”
