Andrew RT Davies MS – the Shadow Health Minister in the Welsh Parliament – commented on the announcement of a local lockdown in Rhondda Cynon Taf, saying:
“The announcement today was on the cards following the local lockdown last week in Caerphilly, and we continue to support reasonable and proportionate measures to control the virus, especially with more people now back at work, and more schoolchildren and students returning to study.
“Any local lockdown should, however, be for as short a time as possible.
“Every effort must be made to avoid a similar situation occurring in other parts of Wales, which includes by learning from these two local lockdowns, and I see that there are some differences between them. In RCT, licensed premises have to close by 11pm, but this wasn’t imposed in Caerphilly.
“The Health Minister must explain the rationale behind this and give guidance across Wales to prevent other lockdowns.”
