Welsh Conservative Vale of Glamorgan candidate Matt Smith said:
"I’m delighted to be here at the muchloved Park Pub in Barry.
"Pubs are part of our national identity. They are the People’s Parliaments. A thriving pub culture is at the heart of our society and a powerful antidote to social isolation.
"Yet uniquely in Wales, the Welsh Labour Government will ban the sale of alcohol in pubs and restaurants from six o’clock tomorrow - Friday the 4th.
"This is a real blow to our pubs in Barry and across the Vale of Glamorgan. The boss of Brains - the great Welsh brewers that run the Park and many other watering holes right across the Vale - has called the shock move a "closure by stealth".
"This is yet another Cardiff Bay policy that is unsupported by evidence and unfairly stigmatises our pubs. And once again, they are leaving our local pub landlords and their hardworking staff in the lurch.
"And just like their barmy ban on essential shopping, we again see Drakeford and his Welsh Labour ministers denying the Senedd a vote on these measures before they do their damage.
"But there is one vote they can't escape: on the 6th of May next year you will get your chance to have your say on those who have called last orders three weeks before Christmas.
"Cheers to that".
