Last week's Budget announced an unpresented budget to tackle the crisis.
It included a £5 billion emergency fund to tackle the COVID-19, Coronavirus as a first step. This will alleviate pressures on frontline staff and provide vital safety equipment.
Furthermore we are taking a proactive approach at developing a vaccine, investing a further £30 million into research. The Government values the importance of providing rapid diagnosis to cause minimal disruption to those in self-isolation after developing symptoms. That is why we have announced a further £10 million to increase the number of specialist trained staff who can accurately diagnose the virus.
The Welsh Government will receive an additional £250 million, on top of the £225million pledged to help tackle the crisis. This is a first step.
This extra funding, together with the excellent work of our doctors, nurses and support staff, will ensure that NHS is well equipped and ready to respond appropriately to the challenges ahead.
